Atlanta Botanical Garden Children's Garden
Atlanta Botanical Garden Children's Garden Entrance

Tres Fromme led a team of in-house Staff and Deneen Powell Atelier, and Smith Dalia Architects on completely re-envisioning ABG's over decade old Children's Garden in preparation for an almost wholesale renovation. The new garden draws upon years of Staff observation; insight from recent targeted focus groups and surveys; and lessons from other public gardens. It is a garden grounded in the wide-ranging experience of educators, designers, and horticulturists.

Major project goals included increasing opportunities for interaction; catalyzing creative free play; enhancing design aesthetics; and allowing youngsters to discover the magic of being in sensory-rich garden spaces. Augmenting visitor amenities; meeting current code and safety considerations; and enhancing maintenance operations are also critical tasks.

The Garden opened in 2016 to enthusiastic response from long-time family visitors. Features include: a new and spacious restroom building; expanded water play area; edible garden; rope bridges; program pavilion and renovated amphitheater; play house “construction” area; snake-themed path/balance beam; replanted bog and pond; and activity-rich tree fort, among others.
