Zoo leadership asked 3. Fromme Design and Ursa International to collaborate with a staff team on envisioning ways to strengthen and integrate the zoological and botanical aspects of the core "Old Zoo". The resulting master plan suggested a floral promenade linking a series of diverse gardens woven throughout existing and proposed animal exhibits where visitors could rest, learn, and enjoy diverse experiences focused on native and adapted flora and fauna.
The plan also addressed visitor and service circulation, adaptive reuse of existing buildings, event venues, and connections between the Old Zoo and recent additions.
The Great Lawn and Picnic Grove, the first two projects within the Master Plan, are schedule to open in 2017. Fromme worked with Torre Design Consortium to realize both projects and led the planting design. |
