The Cheekwood Estate and Gardens Bracken Foundation Children's Garden opened to the public on March 7. Children explore and discover a sequence of engaging spaces and interactive features deriving inspiration from Cheekwood's country place heritage, the Cheek family, and Tennessee native landscapes. Fromme led the design in partnership with HDLA of Nashville, TN and Cheekwood staff.
Cheekwood Estate and Gardens' 2020 Nashville Antiques and Garden Show entry appears in Architectural Digest. Tres Fromme was the lead designer on the exhibit in collaboration with Cheekwood Staff. A grid of citrus and boxwood-edged lawn contrast with exuberant plantings within the classically-inspired Orangery.
Fromme designed a custom bench for the Cheekwood Estate and Gardens Bracken Foundation Children's Garden. The design captures the classicism of the historic garden furnishings while adding a bit of the fantastical. The central circle will contain a custom bronze relief medallion also designed by Fromme.
Children now play and learn in the Garvan Woodland Gardens Root Plaza, an integral component of the Tree House interpretive experience. Tres Fromme led the design for this beautiful, functional, and meaningful space as well as for related art elements narrating the story of Arkansas native trees and forests.
Tres Fromme, Cheekwood Senior Team, and HDLA (Nashville, TN) have begun developing a design program for the Parterre Garden, a multifunctional outdoor space and pavilion to host rentals, events, and educational activities adjacent to the historic garden core.
Saint Mark's School of Texas Science Center Landscape
The Saint Mark's School of Texas Winn Science Center in Dallas, Texas has opened. 3FD led a collaboration with the School, RAMSA Architects, Legends, and Dunaway Associates to develop the landscape master plan and design. The spaces integrate new and existing buildings while creating functional, beautiful, and memorable public places.
Atlanta Botanical Garden Architectural Digest has named the Atlanta Botanical Garden one of the most beautifully designed botanical gardens in America. Tres Fromme has been involved in ABG planning and design for over a decade, leading the creation of major projects, including Skyline Garden, Edible Garden, Gardens in Storza Woods, and the Children's Garden.
Fromme has also collaborated with two other gardens honored on the list. He led the San Antonio Botanical Garden's 2010 Master Plan and recently worked with Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden on several projects refining and advancing the original design. Click here to read the article.
Cheekwood Names Tres Fromme 2019 Designer in Residence
Cheekwood announces a year-long garden design residency with Tres Fromme who will provide critical design insight to Cheekwood as it continues to realize the first phase of its long-term master site plan, completed in 2016. Phase one of the master plan involves multiple projects, including the creation of the Bracken Foundation Children’s Garden, currently under construction, for which Fromme served as the lead designer.The new residency will solidify the partnership between Cheekwood and 3. Fromme Design, allowing Fromme to serve as a key player in the important future projects in Cheekwood’s master plan, including re-imagining the estate’s historic parterre garden as well as the west boutique gardens at Cheekwood, which encompasses the Sigourney Cheek Literary Garden and Wills Perennial Garden. “Tres has played a pivotal role in helping Cheekwood fulfill its mission of offering excellence in art and horticulture, and we’re thrilled to be continuing our relationship through the new residency,” said Peter Grimaldi, vice present of gardens and facilities at Cheekwood.
Fromme will continue collaborating with other public garden clients during the Residency.
Cheekwood Estate and Gardens and 3FD collaborated on the "Isle of Palms," the centerpiece of the renowned Nashville Antiques and Garden Show. A rectilinear pool enclosed a central stone walkway and reflected the dramatic clusters of orchids mounted on the towering trunks of a palm allee.

Tulsa Botanic Garden unveils Garden of Lights. 3.Fromme Design collaborated with staff to develop a holiday illumination experience celebrating the winter aspects of the Tandy Floral Terraces and Children's Discovery Garden. The result is an enchantingly compelling reason for people to make the Garden part of their festive seasonal traditions.
Construction and planting continue on Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden's new Piedmont Prairie. The project celebrates native flora in a gardenesque manner while completing a central circulation loop through the existing gardens. Tres Fromme led the collaboration with the Garden and SiteWork Studios of Asheville, NC.
Cheekwood Estate and Gardens has broken ground on the new Bracken Foundation Children's Garden. Tres Fromme is leading the design process with Hodgson Douglas and collaborating with Cheekwood staff. The Children's Garden opens in June 2019.
The Atlanta Botanical Garden Conservation Bog Garden flourishes in its second summer season. 3FD collaborated closely with Conservation staff to develop the planting design as part of the Skyline Gardens project on which Fromme was lead designer.
3FD has designed the marquee exhibit at the 2018 Nashville Antiques and Garden Show. Cheekwood Estate and Gardens and Fromme collaborated to design a garden vignette inspired by facets of the historic grounds and architecture.
Tulsa Botanic Garden has opened the Grange, a new multi-purpose building, as part of the ongoing realization of its Master Plan. 3FD collaborated with Studio 45 Architects and the Garden throughout the project - from initial program development through design and construction.

Artist Dan Jennison has begun creating maquettes for 3. Fromme Design's interpretive sculptures to be integrated into Garvan Woodland Gardens new Tree House by Modus Studios. The pieces act as catalysts for visitors to explore key native tree species and the animals associated with their life cycles.
The Atlanta Botanical Garden Skyline Gardens open this week. This compelling new destination reflects its unique urban context with a bold yet welcoming contemporary design. Specialty areas include the ever-changing Flower Walk; the jewel-like Conservation Bog Garden; the sky-capturing Lotus Pond; and the living sculpture of the Cactus and Succulent Terraces.
3. Fromme Design collaborated with Tulsa Botanic Garden staff to create a grand scale spring extravaganza of 129,000 blooming bulbs in the Floral Terraces, the majority of which are tulips. This is the second spring show Fromme has developed with the Garden.
Atlanta Botanical Garden Skyline Gardens Under Construction
Work progresses on the Skyline Gardens, a series of new spaces including a dramatic Flower Walk showcasing exuberant seasonal displays and the Cactus and Succulent Garden, an artful composition of diverse hardy Agave, Dasylirion, Nolina, Opuntia, and related plants in a series of terraced planters. The project opens in Spring of this year.
Huntsville Botanical Garden Welcome Center and Gardens
The Garden is realizing the first phase of its Core Garden Master Plan 3. Fromme Design developed with Garden staff, board, and volunteers. 3FD is the lead designer for the new outdoor spaces seamlessly linking the new building with the existing landscape while adding rental space, horticultural displays, and enhancing the botanical collections. Matheny Goldmon Architects designed the spectacular multi-purpose building; 4 Site were the landscape architects of record.
Red Butte Water Conservation Garden Planting Underway
Installation has begun for over 3 acres of exuberant plantings celebrating the beauty and functionality of plants adapted to a range of dry environments. Tres Fromme collaborated closely with the Red Butte Garden Horticulture Team to select a wide variety of species for aesthetic display, collection relevance, and educational potential. Eight different terraces focus on specific themes related to water-wise gardening.
Atlanta Botanical Garden Children's Garden Renovation Phase 1 Opens
Tres Fromme was the lead designer on an almost complete re-envisioning of the ABG's much loved but well-worn Children's Garden. The reborn Garden engages children of all ages in a series of compelling spaces and interactive elements set within horticulturally rich, beautiful plantings, artful elements, and delightful water features. Phase 2 will open sometime in the late summer of this year.

The Power of Public Gardens
The Balboa Park Conservancy in San Diego invited Tres Fromme to present to supporters on The Power of Public Gardens. Fromme shared the characteristics he believes make a botanical garden or arboretum an engaging, compelling, and memorable community legacy.
Contractors, artisans, and artists are planting and completing final touches on this new approximately three acre fantastical interpretation of Oklahoma regional landscapes. The Garden focuses on engaging and inspiring youngsters through interactive elements, custom artwork, and horticultural displays showcasing a rich botanical diversity. Opening festivities begin the week of May 10, 2016.
Atlanta Botanical Orchid Daze 2016 weaves together flowers and naturalist wood
Tres Fromme as the Garden’s Landscape Design and Planning Manager led the creation of a dramatic exhibit showcasing the unparalleled beauty of diverse orchid genera. Flowers cling to a “forest” of cut trees, encrust hovering grapevine spheres, and swirl within a twig spiral in an abstraction of the orchids’ epiphytic habits. As a result visitors continually find themselves discovering unexpected perspectives and relationships to these exotic plants.

The Tulsa Botanic Garden opens the Tandy Floral Terraces. 3. Fromme Design was intimately involved in this project with Garden Staff and Howell Vancuren Landscape Architects through all phases from master planning to planting. Fromme particularity led the initial concept design and the detailed planting plans.

The Atlanta Botanical Garden opened its Gainesville, Georgia Garden!
Tres Fromme in collaboration with Garden staff developed the horticulturally diverse and botanically significant plantings for approximately 12 acres, including display gardens, entry drive, parking, and event spaces.
He also guided the installation of all plantings on site.

Fromme Collaborates with W Hotel Midtown on Holiday Light Installation
As the Atlanta Botanical Garden's Landscape Design and Planning Manager, Fromme developed a chic design to illuminate the hotel's hip urban facade in vibrant Midtown Atlanta. The installation is a visible expression of a partnership between the Garden and W to promote ABG's Garden Lights Holiday Nights.

Florida ASLA Fredric B. Stresau Award
The Frederic B. Stresau Award is bestowed annually by a jury upon a Professional Award of Excellence recipient which best exhibits innovation and design excellence.
"Only works that are truly exceptional and advance the landscape architecture profession and enhance our collective body of knowledge are considered," said Kenn Bates, ASLA, FLASLA Design Awards Committee Chairman."
According to the jury, "The Bok Tower Gardens master plan is a sensitive, beautifully imaginative, and masterful piece of work respectful of an iconic Florida landmark." They commended the designers—Studio Outside/Tres Fromme, and David Sacks Landscape Architecture—for a very carefully prepared document, with a deep understanding of Olmsted's vision.
Fromme facilitated the planning process and led the development of the master site plan.
