3. Fromme Design and Sitework Studios have completed schematic design for a rejuvenation and restoration of Bellingrath’s historic gardens surrounding the Home. The creative approach balanced sensitively adapting a private residential estate into a public garden capable of handling heavy visitation while preserving the essence of the original design. A critical goal was clarifying visitor circulation and achieving ADA accessible routes linking all the major features. Other components involved addition of new spaces for educational programs and rentals; expression of planting themes and approaches; and identification of areas for restoration. The project will position Bellingrath, approaching its Centennial, for new century of beauty, relevance, vitality, and dedication to the Founders’ vision.
