Private Garden Project | Master Plan

A historic preservation not-for-profit engaged the team of HDLA (Nashville, TN) and 3. Fromme Design to explore the possibility of transforming a historic property into a boutique botanical garden from scratch. The overall goal was to establish the site as a compelling regional destination worth the price of admission within a very limited footprint. The design team worked closely with Board, Staff, and Donors to generate an overall program for the site, choreograph the visitor experience, envision immersive garden spaces, and develop an initial plant palette. Other considerations involved integrating a number of existing and proposed buildings, anticipating operational needs, and creating a year-round destination. Research into regional historic estates contemporaneous with the historic home provided the inspiration and formal vocabulary for the master plan. 3. Fromme Design and HDLA also assisted with identifying naming opportunities, suggesting donor levels, and drawing fundraising graphics. Cyril Stewart and Bellinda Stewart led the architectural design.
