United States Botanic Garden Terrace Gardens | Garden Design

Tres Fromme collaborated closely with USBG staff in a series of hands-on design workshops to create a series of gardens for the landscape that front the Conservatory and face both the National Mall and Capitol Building. The intimate new horticultural displays respect this context while enhancing the USBG’s presence and identity in the overall landscape. The Terrace Gardens address connections with the USBG’s adjacent National Garden, visitor circulation, special and seasonal displays, interpretation, and maintenance operations.

Exuberant planting design offers beauty and horticultural inspiration every day of the year while augmenting the Garden’s botanical collections. Plant selections focus on stimulating all the senses through flower, foliage, bark, and stem. The overall design provides a strong spatial framework and aesthetic intent, while encouraging staff to evolve the plantings as new and better species and cultivars become available.
