Atlanta Botanical Garden Gainesville | Master Plan
3. Fromme and HDLA (Nashville, TN) collaborated with Garden leadership to update the original Herb Schaal master plan for the Gainesville, GA campus. A particular focus was determining how to preserve the donors’ home and landscape while allowing conservation and plant exploration uses. The master plan outlined the homestead’s essential identity, character, and features. The plan also delineated non-public use areas for new functions, including research plots, growing houses, meeting areas, office space, and limited parking.
The process also envisioned new facilities and gardens for the existing public facing gardens. An education building attached to the existing visitor center supports mission-based programs for both school children and adults. An open air demonstration kitchen and edible garden showcase how vegetation becomes cuisine. The proposed event building is a choice venue for generating revenue through weddings, lectures, and other rentals. Outdoor spaces and trails bring visitors into contact with woodland plantings.
Final products in addition to the master plan graphics included detailed written architectural programs and initial sketch plans for the proposed buildings.
